Hi Sherri, As a PE teacher, what kind of equity issues do you address these days? Apparently, girls lose confidence in their ability to play sports well throughout their youth. What do you think? If you agree, have you observed any equity-based techniques working on them?
Big questions! Thanks for asking. In a nutshell, all PE classes present opportunities to practice equity and/or fail to do so. Are activities accessible? Do all students feel encouraged and empowered to offer their best efforts? How is fun understood and distributed? All of these questions are running in the background as I teach. As far as girls losing their confidence to play, I know that there are many contributing factors and traditional competitive orientations to phys Ed is likely a big one. So much depends on context.
Thanks for your answer, Sherri! I wish my PE teachers had conveyed more of a sense of fun. Instead, it was about identifying and supporting the best athletes who would represent the school in tournaments. It’s only once I took up sports on my own – outside of school programs – that I developed any skill in sports.
Hi Sherri, your smile – makes me smile. Thank you. Pockets and bag with pockets – this we have in common. I would not call myself sporty- but does the love for dancing count as a sport? – Please say yes? ๐

You know, Sherri I half expected your ALTCV to have a literal photo of you sliding down a slide, like in a playground? Haha.
I love pockets too BTW.
Wish I’d thought of it, Maha! ๐ Next time!
